Knife Branding and Packaging

The Brief

‘’Create a brand identity and logo for a range of colourful, low cost knives before also creating a series of packaging concepts.”

The Brand and Product Photography

With the branding there was two possible routes:

  • Take inspiration from the low cost, colourful aspect,

  • Play on the heritage of Sheffield manufacture.

Due to the target market and the key low cost product, the first route was chosen rather than heritage, which would be better for a high cost brand.

The chosen name is 'Vivid Kitchen'

  • Vivid = Fun, bright, colourful,

  • Vivid = Intense/ power – a sense of quality,

  • “Kitchen” rather than “knives” allows company development past knives.

The logo was designed using Illustrator and is a simple design that works well with and without colour. The logo contains both V and K, the company initials, with the V/Vivid being at the forefront.

The product photography aspect of the project was to demonstrate how a brand might utilise the product for marketing purposes.

Design

Inspiration was first created in the form of a mood board looking into:

  • Knife packaging,

  • Wider product packaging,

  • Low cost through to higher cost solutions.

From the inspiration, a series of packaging ideas were then quickly hand sketched before being taken into Adobe Illustrator. three concepts were created for singular knife packages and three concepts for multiple knife sets. Within these three concepts, one was low cost, one medium cost and one a high cost solution.
