Speaker Design

The Brief

“Design a table top/ portable speaker, maximum size 90mm3 and produced by rapid prototyping, for a target market of your choosing."

Research and Concept Design

Target market = 18-30 males, high end/ luxury market.

Using inspiration from existing products, furniture, architecture and nature relating to a sleek, modern, luxurious approach.

Initial forms explored, first in 2D and basic 3D, before the development phase explored the forms in more detail.

CAD

Once selected, the final design was modelled on Solidworks using the master modelling technique. This ensured that all parts fitted together perfectly once the individual bodies had been saved out and then assembled.

Rendering of the assembly was completed using Keyshot.

Prototype

The speaker prototype has a 3D printed main body, with finishing techniques applied afterwards. Laser cutting was used for the detailing, including the logo and volume control.

Basic rewiring of the speaker module was necessary for the switch and LED features.

Presentation

Created using Photoshop, the presentation boards were presented, alongside a pitch, as if it were done to potential investors.
