Winch and Gearbox Design

Winch Design

The premise of the project related to taking predetermined constraints on speeds and rope lengths and using engineering calculations to enable the design of a wakeboarding winch.

From these calculations dimensions for the shafts, gears and drum could be determined.

 

A CAD assembly and an engineering drawing of the winch, displaying the key dimensions and parts, could then be created using Solidworks.

Gearbox CAD

The calculations and dimensions determined during the winch project allowed a fully mated, CAD assembly of a gearbox to be created for a different university project. The gearbox was modelled on Solidworks and rendered using Photoview 360.

An engineering drawing was then created with a bill of materials showing parts, part frequency, material choice and potential production methods.
